· behind the scenes

I'm Melissa; pretend journalist and currently real-life accountant wannabe. I used to be a kid in highschool, but I've since kicked the habit. At 18 years of age I'm just moving through life, enjoying my free-time and earning lots of money whilst still living with my parents. Continued on page 2...

How fast can you type?

I think I can type something like 110 words per minute, though that’s when I’m on a roll. Most of the time I like to pause to think :P I never used to be good with typing numbers, though since I’ve been working in accounting I’ve gotten really good with the number pad on the side.

What is your favorite online game?

Quake III Ultra Freeze Tag… It’s a mod for Q3 that’s like stuck in the mud - you’re on teams, and if someone kills you, you freeze over. To thaw a teammate you have to stand next to them for 30 seconds and you can die in the meantime. If all of your team gets frozen the other team gets a point, first team to 10 points wins. Pretty cool eh?

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 as highest), how intelligent do you think you are?

I really, really hate sounding conceited, but I’d probably say around an 8. I’m not a super brain at anything, but I’m really good with memory recall, picking things up quickly and I tend to have more intellectual interests (disregard that I play Quake, okay :P).

Name three of your best teachers from your school years.

1. Mrs Pigram - my latin teacher from highschool. She was probably the only person who understood me, empathised with my pain and issues throughout highschool and she was (still is) a really great friend of mine and my family.
2. Mr ohh this is so bad, I can’t even remember his name! He was my maths teacher in year 9. It wasn’t that he was a favourite teacher of mine, it was that he was a really good teacher. He was the only teacher who was ever capable of making me almost “enjoy” maths classes. He had a great way of teaching that I really understood. That’s why I liked him. :P (Edit: Mr Denahy is his name. I remembered after a couple of days.)
3. Mrs Townsend - my class teacher in year 5. Again, she had a way of teaching that I really clicked with - I was always doing really well in class and I used to be really creative back then which she encouraged.

What are your plans for this upcoming weekend?

Well, I wanted to go into Parramatta and donate blood tomorrow morning, but it seems you need to book in ahead. So I’m considering going into the city where you don’t need to book, but that’s a lot more effort so I may just wait a while and make a booking.. I’m also buying another budgie. I had 2 and they hated each other so I bought them a friend to break the tension, but apparently birds are very much into pairs, and so there’s a weird dynamic in that cage and one of the girls is getting really left out and I feel bad for her so I’m going to get her a friend too.
