Welcome to eloquensa! Currently masquerading as a newspaper hot off the press for want of a better idea, the story behind this edition of my world is a fairly simple one. · behind the scenes

I'm Melissa; pretend journalist and currently real-life accountant wannabe. I used to be a kid in highschool, but I've since kicked the habit. At 18 years of age I'm just moving through life, enjoying my free-time and earning lots of money whilst still living with my parents. Continued on page 2...

So i’m doing this thing
October 17, 2007 | Filed under: Daily Grind

From the summer to the spring, from the mountain to the air.. From samaritan to sin, and it's waiting on the air... Thirteen Senses - Into The Fire

I’m finally doing the thing where I try to save money. I kind of flirted with the idea at the beginning of the year, and I saved a fair bit - but then stuff started happening and I just got out of the habit of doing it. But now - now is the beginning of a revolution! The revolution where my savings are automatically deducted from my pay every fortnight, so then I don’t even get to see what I could have spent. As well as this, I have banned myself from spending money on crap. Crap like lunch orders for the sake of having a sandwich that’s tastier than vegemite, and having hot chocolate for the sake of caffeine/sugar rush/whatever at 10:40am when everyone needs a pick-me-up (I’ve always refused to get addicted to coffee). I’ve also banned myself from buying alcohol every week. Instead, I only get to once every fortnight at most (but damnnit Gemma, that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop making you cocktails!)

All of this is being documented in my diary-esque book that I carry with me to work every day. If I spend something, I have to write it down and face up to it later! Hence I try not to spend much, because it means I have to write it down and that makes me look naughty. I’m doing very well so far, it’s been 2 weeks and I haven’t had a single lunch order/hot chocolate & morning tea/alcohol purchase since I started. I’ve also saved around $800.00+ *so proud*. The other cool thing about this organiser is that it has multiple sections (with pretty colours! Such incentive), which I’m also using to document major purchase plans and the search for an apartment to move into next year. Apartment hunting and open houses are so much fun, I can’t wait to start seriously looking around February next year.

This year, instead of buying crappy birthday presents that are all showy and not very useful, Kev and I bought a TV together. It’s so sexy, man - it’s a Sharp, the 37″/94cm one in their AQUOS range. Futurama and Zelda never looked better!

Now I’d better get back to trying to make myself write my résumé. I don’t have to, but I should.
