Welcome to eloquensa! Currently masquerading as a newspaper hot off the press for want of a better idea, the story behind this edition of my world is a fairly simple one. In order to unfold it, one need only use the navigation above. Some articles will be viewer censored, and all commenting is only available once registered and logged in.
I'm Melissa; pretend journalist and currently real-life accountant wannabe. I used to be a kid in highschool, but I've since kicked the habit. At 18 years of age I'm just moving through life, enjoying my free-time and earning lots of money whilst still living with my parents. Continued on page 2...

“You're waiting for someone to put you together; you're waiting for someone to push you away. There's always another wound to discover, there's always something more you wish he'd say... Veritcal Horizon - Everything You Want”
So, I’ve been doing a lot of stuff recently. Some of it’s been cool, some of it not quite up there, but for the most part I’m happy. :D
I’ve been updating Maxima a little here and there, so there are a few more translations online for you to have a gander at. I really need to do some more with the content side of that, like actually do a contact page and a proper archives page - but these things aren’t so important. I’ve also neglected to finish creating eloquensa’s content, though it’s not something that’s important to me anymore. It’ll happen when I’m ready for it to happen, I’ve got more important things going on at the moment that I need to make time for. Big cop out, I know, but you’ll survive.
I can’t remember whether I explained too much previously, and I’m too lazy to look at my own archives, but I’ve been going to a new Classical Greek tutor in Glebe (40 minutes drive, on a good day without traffic :/) twice a week, an hour each time, at $60/per hour. This is $500 a month. There has to be some kind of supplement the BOS can offer me, seeing as it’s their crappiness which means I have to do the subject through a private tutor rather than the Open Highschool service, but I’m yet to find it. Anyway, it’s going really well, and I’m starting to feel like I can actually do some of this stuff. I mean, it’s been a struggle to make myself put the time into doing the work (around 10 hours a week), but it’s paying off - even if it is slowly. I really like doing Thucydides, because the prose is so much easier than the verse, but content-wise, the Sophocles is more interesting. Wars were never really my thing in Ancient History.
Continuing with the theme of school, I got all my marks back for the half-yearlies and it was kind of crappy. I know I didn’t prepare for them like I should have, but despite that, noone ever likes having proof that they’re not doing that well. I did okay in Latin Extension, because I prepared for that one slightly, but I did really badly in Latin Continuers. I was sick at the time - but that’s not the point anymore. I did okay in English, and okay in Ancient History, but I did badly in Biology. They have this awful marking scheme where they get the average mark, raise it if it’s too low compared to the rest of the state average, and then they want a standard deviation of 12 marks. Now, because everyone got roughly the same marks, this meant that anyone slightly below average (me) was scaled down further to give them their 12 mark range. I was pissed. I’m not that bad at Biology, but now it’s like I’m failing it. *angry*

Our beloved *cough* BOS finally released the 2006 HSC timetable. Most schools got theirs before ours, but we got wind of it and found that someone had scanned a copy and placed it on the internet, so I knew my timetable mid-week while everyone else found out officially on Friday. My timetable is awful. Reasons why:
(a) Not only do I have 3 exams in a row, but 4 in a row if you discount the 2 day weekend between the two English Advanced papers.
(b) Both my Latin Continuers and Classical Greek Continuers papers are 3 hours long, and they go until 5.00pm - Yuck!
(c) The Latin Extension paper is the last exam in the entire assessment schedule, so I definitely don’t get to party early like anyone else.
But I promised Kev I won’t complain (too much) [any]more ;), because he has 2 exams on one day - 9:25am to 11:30pm, and 12:55pm - 5:00pm. Nasty people who set the timetable…

Enough of school, though! I’ll do a list of Top 10 most important things that have happened to me in the past (few) month(s) that I haven’t updated. In no particular order, except perhaps chronologically:
01. I finally got accepted to SNOG!, and I’ve been posting there semi-religiously ever since. I’m proud of myself for finally sticking to a forum and posting there regularly, rather than in one excitable splurge and then never again. I love the community, and there are a number of people I’d love to get to know better.
02. Kev and Brooke came up from Nowra for the weekend, and Gemma came over for part of the night. I was having my nails done (I get them done professionally once a fortnight), and so once I was done I couldn’t cook dinner for ages because I was waiting for my nails to dry. So while I was getting them done, I was trying to instruct Kev on how to cook it, but he gave up - so then it was entrusted to Gemma to get stuff done so that we’d be eating before midnight. In the end we got it cooked, and it was a nice meal. :D The next day we went to Laura’s Birthday/End-Of-Exams Party, and it was probably one of the best parties I’ve been to. Yay Laura! They taught us how to gamble :O, we learnt how to play Blackjack, and that was so exciting that we didn’t get around to learning Poker or Roulette. Then there was dancing, and they’d hired a jukebox that was really good, so everyone got to listen to at least some of their favourite music. Great night.
03. I got my hair cut. I was so freaked out when I first did it, because there was a huge pile of hair on the floor. I’d been growing my hair for probably 3 years, and it was down to my waist, so I was quite attached to it being long. Now it’s not that short, so I shouldn’t make a big deal about it, but it’s about 3 inches past my shoulder and slightly layered. I like it, but I can see myself growing it long again in the near future. :)
04. I got a new job :D I’ve been working at Target for probably 10 months now, and while it’s been great to me, I’ve moved up in the world to working for a Pathology company. I work in the Lab Office, and I receive specimens, document them, give them episode numbers, take them to places around the lab after I’ve spun them in the centrifuge (if necessary). I also do the data entry of all the patient/episode details, and (when I’m braver) I’ll be answering the phones and giving out results and/or doing bookings for couriers to pick up specimens. It’s really exciting, and pays me $15.00/hour rather than Target’s $9.00. I also worked upstairs in the Accounts Department doing Medicare resubmissions/letters and general paperwork during the holidays, earning a hell-of-a-lot of money. So I’m a happy chappy. I also get free vaccinations so that the specimens don’t infect me and cause me to sue the company.
05. My Mum and Dad were fighting a lot, which I detailed in the Protected post prior to this one, but that’s somewhat resolved now. More family peace! Hooray.
06. My brother got engaged in February (can’t remember whether I made a post about that), and his fiancée is an absolutely gorgeous person. I love you Lucy, if you ever read this! They’re looking for places in NSW (where I live, in case you don’t know) for their reception/wedding ceremony, seeing as all the family is over here. They’re living in Perth at the moment, on the other side of the country.
07. My grandfather died on Boxing Day last year (26/12/05), and we all miss him incredibly. And while the funeral ceremony was a political-self-righteous piece of crap on behalf of my older cousins who live over there, his will did our family some justice. Their mother, my late aunt (who died perhaps a year and 4 months before my grandfather), received half of his assets towards her estate, which was devided equally between my cousins over there (by there, I mean in Adelaide). My father, the other child, received the other half. Nice and fair. We only found this out recently, that’s why it’s so far down the list. :)
08. I went to the Nitro Champs at WSID last weekend, and it was surprisingly exciting. I mean, dragracing is usually pretty good, but I haven’t been to an event at WSID that’s been that packed full of people before. The atmosphere was awesome, even if Bob Sherpherd did blow up his car in the second run. That almost jeopardised him racing at the Winternationals at Willowbank, Queensland in June - but I’ve since heard we’re still going. Consequently, Kev and I have plane tickets up to Brisbane in June. :) A nice mini-holiday is to be had. I hope to get some more manual car driving practise in while I’m up there.
09. I’m doing this thing this year where I’m going all out for people’s 18th birthdays, seeing as around half of my friends are coming of age now. I usually only get “personalised” presents for those I’m really close to, and sometimes go in on a gift with a few others for those who I’m not as close to, but this year I’m not going in on presents, and just getting really good presents for those turning 18. I got Gemma’s and Steph’s birthday presents, and they don’t turn 18 until August. I’m really excited about Gemma’s, though I won’t publish what it is here because I know some friends from school read this, possibly even Gemma herself. Ha! *bounces for joy over awesome presents*
10. Muffin, my puppy-baby who is now 7 months old, is a hyperactive animal. He caught a rat today… That’s just disgusting.
