I'm Melissa; pretend journalist and currently real-life accountant wannabe. I used to be a kid in highschool, but I've since kicked the habit. At 18 years of age I'm just moving through life, enjoying my free-time and earning lots of money whilst still living with my parents. Continued on page 2...
I return, again!

“I wanna stand with you on a mountain, I wanna bathe with you in the sea, I wanna lay like this forever, until the sky falls down on me. Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply”
Well it’s been a while, but I’m free at the moment so I’ve decided to give a post.
I’ve been doing lots of Latin at school now. Nine periods of it (40minsx9)/per week, in fact, which is absolutely awesome. I’ve been doing Virgil’s Aeneid VI (Aeneas goes to the Underworld to see his father) and some Livy (on the founding of Rome, etc) - that’s just in continuers Latin. In extension Latin I’ve been doing Lucretius, who is - well, was - a Roman philosopher, who based his philosophy on Epicureanism (except with his own differences). It’s extremely interesting, and amazing that they thought about life the way they did back then. In extension we’re also doing Cicero (I’m sure he’s the one most would know - and gee, I’m really up on the parentheses this post, eh?), and he’s talking about his philosophy, as he’d much rather be known as a philosophist rather than a politician. Who wouldn’t, really? Also, I’m gradually starting up a Latin translation site, Legibles, although it’ll take a while for any major translations to be up - not giving away my notes before HSC, m’kay :P
I dropped chemistry. I thought I would eventually from the moment I took on the subject, but hey - I tried. It was far too “mathsy” - and for people who don’t know, maths is the spawn of Satan and the subject that “shall not be named,” according to my Ancient History teacher. Life is better without it, and I have another 6 free periods to add to my stash. I’m only doing 11 units (I was doing 12, but history extension isn’t for me - more later), but you only need to do 10 anyway - it’s just my nerdy school being all paranoid about units and most people doing 14 because they like being stressed. And history extension - again, I tried. It was completely not what I thought it would be - I’d delusioned myself into thinking that doing extension history would mean doing more ancient history, but it’s like a completely different subject. It’s all about “What is history?” “Which sources are more reliable and why?” I hate that stuff. :(
Excitement galore: I had my 17th birthday party a while ago. All the people I know and love came to be with me, and while we didn’t end up going to a restaurant like we originally intended ages ago, we had a pretty cool pool partay. Lots o’ fun in that. You know what’s really funny? When people wear such outrageous bathers/swimmers that they have to put sunscreen on their breasts. *giggle* I’m allowed to laugh, okay? It was my party. :P Other worthwhile notes: Anna was a darling and wore this white dress that she looks really pretty in (but she hates), just because I asked her to. :D Kev came up to Sydney for the party *hug Kev* and I got some lovely presents, thanks guys. :)
Slightly more recently I went down to Nowra for another 17th birthday party - this time it was Kev’s ex-girlfriend and her twin sister’s birthday. To say it more simply: I went down for a friend’s party. :) But I like complicating things - I’m female. This party was slightly more.. ‘upbeat’ than mine, however they both had their perks. I met lots of cool new people at the one in Nowra, had a fun evening in general, socialising with new people. Had a good chat to Mollie, Scottie W, Damo and Nathaniel to name a few. Steve was just.. out of his mind for most of the night. We were at Mollie and Sallie’s place, on some huge property - the house was on top of a hill and the party was down past this really steep edge, and Steve managed to convince me that we should climb up this hill in the dark to look for Kev. Baaddd plan. Though it was a really interesting party - we were all told to bring as much jelly as we could, and they filled this inflatable swimming pool with it and had jelly wars. Fortunately, I wasn’t directly a part of them, but Kev was “kind” enough to put jelly all over me anyway. And we say “what a bum.” There was also some leso action and Damo getting angry because a bunch of guys pissed on his car - but I’m fairly sure that’s normal. My first teenage party… interesting experience. I’m so sheltered.
Most recently, as in today, we had our school Spring Fair. It’s supposed to be just a fun day where you don’t have to wear uniform, you come and muck around, buy junk from stalls that raise money for different causes, do sports competitions and perform/watch people make fools out of themselves. It rained the whole day pretty much, and I was absolutely drenched - but it was still a surprisingly good day. We sold out of our Krispy Kremes (fundraising for going to Europe at the end of ‘06) around 11am, so I got to enjoy the rest of the day. I bought some stick on tattoos, that was one of the more interesting events. Pictures:

The other cool thing about today was Spring Fair Live - this concert of all different performers. Tom was a legend and he and the band played some of their Aphony songs, Austin popped his mouth in tune with William Tell’s Overture, and Hadley electric guitared the Super Mario Bros. tune.. woo! I was amused, that’s impressive in itself - I’m rarely amused with musical performances, I’m known for holding my head in my hands and picturing myself elsewhere.
Hooray, I got to the end without too many interruptions. :) *sings along to music..*
